Calvin has worked for Kirkwood since 1994. He became an Academic Advisor in 1998. As an Advisor, he helps students in determining their educational goals, and helps navigate students toward other student services that foster success. In 1994, Calvin earned a Liberal Arts A.A. degree from Kirkwood after transferring from the University of Iowa. He then transferred back to Iowa to obtain his B.A. in Psychology which he earned in 1997. Calvin also has a Masters in Organizational Leadership from St. Ambrose University.

Becky earned her B.A. in Communication Studies from Central College in 2014 and her Master’s in College Student Personnel Administration with a Certificate in Academic Advising from University of Central Missouri in 2017. Before her career in academic advising, Becky worked in residence life. Becky’s professional and personal interests include working with first-year students, student transitions (from high school to college, from college to the workforce), knitting/crocheting, and spending time with her family and dog.
The Kirkwood bookstores sell a current selection of textbooks, general interest books, supplies, computer software, electronics, music, DVDs, and official Kirkwood clothing and gifts.

Kirkwood Counseling Services is free and confidential to all enrolled Kirkwood students. Any of the Kirkwood counselors can meet with students on the Iowa City campus, through in-person appointments or virtual Zoom meetings. All of our counselors have 1 or 2 office days per week on the Iowa City campus. To schedule with one of our counselors, contact the Student Services office at (319) 887-3658.
You can pick up your official Kirkwood ID at the Iowa City Bookstore. The card gets you into the library, computer labs, the recreation center, various Kirkwood events, and more. It can also be used as a debit card for purchases both on and off-campus.
The Financial Aid office helps eligible students navigate the financial aid options that make affording college a reality. Financial aid is based on individual need. Aside from loan programs, other sources of aid include grants, scholarships, and work-study programs.
The Fitness Center is located at Room 161. Students have access to a free workout room with their EagleCard. The Fitness Center is currently closed for summer.
All currently enrolled Kirkwood students are invited to receive pre-packaged perishable and non-perishable grocery items from our Student Food Pantry once-a-week – at NO cost.
Kirkwood Global Learning is responsible for international student admission, international student services and advising, study abroad programming and advising, and managing several international grant programs. They serve as a crossroads for faculty, staff and students from around the world who seek educational opportunities.
The Learning Services department offers support for students with disabilities. These services are available to qualified students at no cost.
Using a team approach to assist students, staff on main campus and all county sites work with students to determine reasonable accommodations and ensure that instructors are aware of accommodation needs.
Located in Room 107, Kirkwood's Iowa City Library offers many valuable resources to students. Reference librarians can help you with your research.
You can use a computer or check out a laptop to take anywhere in the Credit Center building. There are plenty of seats to study or read, plus five study rooms for small groups. Students can also print, scan, or copy materials.

Stop in the Math Lab and talk one-on-one with an instructor free of charge. There's no appointment needed.
Times change from semester to semester and the Math Lab is unavailable this summer, so please check the current schedule at the Student Services office, with your instructor, or on the door of the lab. The Iowa City Test Center provides placement testing exams, exams for online courses, departmental exams, and various certification testing. There is no charge for testing services. A photo I.D. must be shown for all types of testing.
Tutoring services are offered free to any Kirkwood student enrolled in credit classes for which tutoring is sought. Students may receive tutoring for two different classes each semester, for up to two hours per week for each class.
Located in Room 134, the Iowa City Campus Writing Center offers free tutorial services for all students at any stage of a writing project. One of Kirkwood’s writing instructors will work with you one-on-one for 30 minutes. The Writing Center's services are unavailable during the summer.
General College Help
Meet with on-site staff members about financial aid options, scholarship opportunities and for advice of registering for classes. Learn more about Kirkwood's student services.
Library
Check out materials from the library and have them sent to the Jones Regional Education Center for pick-up. Search the Kirkwood library database for textbooks and periodicals. Requests may be placed and directed to students with a two-three day turnaround. Reference librarian support is available by telephone.
Computer Lab
JREC has a computer lab open daily for student use. Check your email, do research for class projects or type up a term paper all from the comfort of the lab. We offer the Microsoft Office suite, COMPASS Testing and Career Search Services. Our staff is available on a limited basis for students with course projects and assignments.

Make-up Exams have to be approved by the instructor before they can be scheduled. The instructor must send a written approval form or call the center. You will need to call ahead and set up a time to take the make-up exam.
Online Tests are given at specific times and require a 48-hour notice when scheduling. Please call ahead to set up a time to take your exam. When you call to schedule your testing time, you will need to provide the following information:
Accuplacer and ALEKS Placement Tests are also scheduled by appointment. Please call ahead to set up a time to take your placement test.
Scheduling a Testing Time
Tutoring Services are offered free to part-time or full-time Kirkwood students enrolled in credit classes. The college offers three forms of tutoring: individual, group and online tutoring.
Individual Tutoring is conducted in person, one tutor per student. Tutors include current students, recent Kirkwood graduates or retired instructors that meet strict guidelines. Students meet with tutors at the Tippie-Mansfield Center, the Belle Plaine Community Library or any other Tutor Center approved location. These sessions may take place during the day, evening or weekend hours.
Group and Online Tutoring services are available at Kirkwood's Main Campus Tutoring Center.
Tutoring is NOT available for some classes.
Want to be a Tutor? Student tutors must have a GPA of 3.00 and have earned an A or B+ in the course they would like to tutor (or be earning an A or B+ if currently enrolled in the course) and have the approval of the instructor.
